{"id":324,"date":"2020-01-11T02:31:25","date_gmt":"2020-01-11T02:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices\/?page_id=324"},"modified":"2025-10-27T11:21:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T17:21:58","slug":"voices-from-the-faculty","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices\/voices-from-the-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"Voices from the Faculty and Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is Able to Participate:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite all faculty and staff from across Health Sciences and associated communities to contribute a 55-word story to&nbsp;<em>Voices from the Faculty and Staff,&nbsp;<\/em>first published in 2020 (<a href=\"https:\/\/rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices\/2020\/04\/01\/volume-1-2020-voices-from-the-faculty\/\">https:\/\/rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices\/2020\/04\/01\/volume-1-2020-voices-from-the-faculty\/<\/a>) to highlight the experiences of teaching in the School of Medicine. This very short format of exactly 55 words offers a creative challenge and a helpful limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We welcome submissions that <strong>address aspects of health sciences practice, education, training, and research<\/strong> and how these impact our lives and relationships. This can include but is not limited to situations that are memorable, inspirational, troubling, and\/or humorous. All issues can be found at this site: <a href=\"https:\/\/rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices\/issues\/\">rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices\/issues\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a partner publication to <em>Voices from the Wards,<\/em>&nbsp;found here <a href=\"https:\/\/rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices-from-the%20wards\/\">rubor.med.utah.edu\/voices-from-the%20wards\/<\/a>, which features 55-word stories from each year\u2019s graduating class of medical students about their training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*We also have an open call for cover art submissions. If interested in submitting artwork, please email <a href=\"mailto:candace.chow@hsc.utah.edu\">candace.chow@hsc.utah.edu<\/a> (the submission form is only for 55-word stories).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submission Guidelines: <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions must be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Exactly 55 words (excluding the title) in the form of personal narratives or stories, poetry, or a hybrid genre of creative nonfiction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Related to actual experiences of the author; <strong>fictional accounts will not be accepted<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Written creatively in a voice that is personal, not didactic or pedantic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional in tone and theme; specifically, the stories should be respectful of student and patient privacy and of the patient-provider relationship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Editors may reach out to authors with questions about theme, word choice, or readability. Susan Sample, PhD, MFA, Writer-in-Residence at Huntsman Cancer Institute and former <em>Voices <\/em>editorial board member, will lead the workshop.
