I am the Daughter of a Physician

I am the daughter of a physician.

When I traveled to Papua New Guinea, I
learned to introduce myself in Pidgin English,
“mi bilong (I belong to) dokta (doctor) check em ai
(eye doctor)”.

With his encyclopedic recall of medical
school from the 1950s, there would be no other reason
to “bilong” to anyone else.
