Mom, M.D.

Being a physician-mother sometimes makes me
feel inadequate at both jobs.
My toddler son, after learning I am a physician,
exclaimed “What? No, you’re not!” And giggled.
First, indignation. I work hard for my patients!
Then, understanding. It’s enough for him that I’m
Mama, source of milk and snuggles.
Maybe not so inadequate after all.
