It’s no one’s idea of fun to watch a drug-addict father—his mind grated on the spall of opioids—search for his child and, leaning over an empty
plastic bin, say to nothing:
“Look, she’s beautiful.” But to this tragedy I allow a
bitter smile, because we must risk delight.
