Not Your Fault

A mother’s guilt, her son nearly drowned.
Not her fault, he’ll recover, but she can’t let it go.
I’m asked to teach water safety.
What is there to say?
I summon courage, humanity, purpose.
“A baby can drown in even one inch of water.”
Guilt’s ugly face reemerges.
I’m so sorry, so sorry, so sorry.
