Mother

Five, vibrant, and full of life.
Kindergarten drop-off, rush to rounds. Brief midday
juggle to attend the holiday recital. She sees me,
beaming. Back to the hospital for a goals-of-care
discussion. Evening dash to pick her up from karate.

“Mommy, work at my school instead so we can
always be together.”

Maybe one day, my love.
