“School” (Spring 2020)

My fifth grader received an F in online band.

I discovered a poke-and-stick butterfly tattoo
on my senior’s ankle,
engineered by a teenaged artiste.

When my freshman approached, her ear lobe
self-pierced with an unclasped safety pin,
“Nothing’s open, Mom. We saved money!”
I hastily turned off Zoom’s video.

Pandemic education came in many forms.
