Among Friends

One day I arrived to work,
looked around the team room,
and recognized only the diseases.
I looked at cirrhosis.
It looked at me.
Though the platelets remained a point of
contention,
we decided to meet weekly and check in.
To date it’s been as dutiful and reliable as
anyone could ask of a friend.
