Oncology Wards. Christmas Day. I’ve been dreading this for months. All is calm, of course, until – the dreaded pager tone goes off. We race to the room: 40 years young, metastatic, comfort cares. Taking their last gasps. Christmas Day – now forever tied with loss and tears. Just like when we lost my grandpa last year.
Déjà vu, Literature by Kory Ford, MD

Kory does not typically consider himself a writer, though after his oncology wards rotation he wrote this piece as an act of catharsis after a particularly challenging day. He also wrote this to highlight the emotional difficulties of being a physician that does not get nearly enough mention or support. This piece is dedicated to his Grandpa Ford, who died suddenly on 12/26/22 and continues to be greatly missed.
