The Weight

Room by room, they ask, “How am I doin’
doc?” They mean, “Please, don’t let me go
blind.” I reply, “Everything looks good.” I mean,
“I’ll do my best.” Room by room, they gift me
trust. Room by room, that gift transforms into
weight in a reverse metamorphosis – butterfly
back to caterpillar, hope into burden.
