Moving dirt

Two pairs of brown eyes glaze over as the
room fills with her empty advice, sighs,
and resigned recommendations.

“Think about therapy, okay?”
“Medication might help.”
“Everybody has dirt to move around –
sometimes we need help moving it.”

I stay, offering to turf teenage despair
to the clinic expert.
“Are they white or Navajo?”
