The Little-Known Epidemic

I imagine they were depressed before it all began, but
unaware.

They worked hard, stayed busy, played Frisbee, liked walks.
A virus took over. They worked from a basement, no walks,
no Frisbee, no air.

The demon within stirred and put a gun to their head.

They became a statistic.

The epidemic within the pandemic.

Safdar is course director for the Transition to Internship clerkship, and Assistant Director of the Critical Care clerkship. He attended medical school at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, and fulfilled a Neurology residency and Neurocritical Care fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
