Getting It All

My 20s, training
My 30s, attending

People have kids late
We’ve got time

It’ll happen
Years pass

No pluses or lines
Fruitless workups

Fuming, grieving
Medicine was a mistake

Reflect
Reframe values

Accept what is
Hope

The instant we met your birth mama
Saw your two tiny heads

It made sense
We always wanted you

Mary Steinmann, MD

Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry

Mary grew up in a rural non-medical home and still wonders how she was lucky enough to get into medicine. She is passionate about helping students consider identities and career paths they never thought possible. She is privileged to hear deeply personal stories as a pediatric psychiatrist.
