What I Wish I’d Known (II)

The middle-aged woman whined her way through
minimally toxic chemotherapy. Trying to force her up a notch on Maslow’s Hierarchy, I asked, “What did you learn while going through chemotherapy?”

She looked down. A long pause. “I wish,” she said, “that I could begin to find a way to forgive my father for my childhood.”
