Emma

Polaroids on the walls,
Plush pillows lost in a heap of sheets.
Slow steady breathing,
Subtle mechanical beeps.

Powdered make up, sweet perfume,
Natural light streaming from the window,
Healthy people walking by.

The young girl smiles at another day,
Head and heart held high.
She battles courageously with an unrelenting beast,
Femininity, her guiding light.

This was the first poem she had ever written and was a prompted writing activity. In truth, it wrote itself.
