I save people every day, but I couldn’t save you. My brother, my best friend. I’m sorry you got schizophrenia. I’m sorry I was too busy to take you to your appointments. I’m sorry you had no other way out. I’m sorry I was not there when you needed me most. I was at work.
Jacob, Literature by Tamara Osborn, MD
Tamara Osborn, MD
Tamara completed medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine followed by general surgery residency at the University of Arkansas, then moved to Utah to train in plastic surgery. She took care of her little brother, Jacob Osborn, who suffered from treatment-resistant schizophrenia and depression while going through general surgery residency. Unfortunately, he passed away from suicide. Dealing with his death made her realize the importance of advocacy for mental health for patients and physicians.
