Throughout these past four years of medical
school, we learned to navigate the halls of
HSEB to the halls of the wards; we
transcended study habits and ways to
efficiently pre-round. Step by step, we become
better and better. While the changes in our
schedule were predictable, the evolution of
our self-identity in medicine might not have
been. We battled imposter syndrome and the
mold we were expected to fit as we
challenged ideas and people who wanted to
shape us and hide parts of our identity that
didn’t fit the definition of a ‘doctor.’ And
throughout this journey to the best versions of
ourselves, we became physicians – and one
day it won’t feel so uncomfortable when
someone calls us the doctor. Because we are
enough and we do belong here.
