Program in Medical Ethics and Humanities

Rubor is sponsored by the Program in Medical Ethics and Humanities of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. The program seeks “to prepare physicians to provide respectful, humane patient care, to address current ethical problems in health care through research and discussion, and to engage with providers, patients, and families to resolve their ethical conflicts.” The program “uses relevant medicine, law, moral reasoning, literature, drama, and art to inform physicians about ethical issues and prepare them to empathize and communicate compassionately.”

Opportunities for engagement include the Evening Ethics Program, which facilitates multidisciplinary discussions on current issues in medical ethics, and the Physicians Literature and Medicine Group, a discussion series of books relevant to medicine led by faculty in the Program for Medical Ethics and Humanities and other University of Utah faculty and staff.
