“This piece was created during my first year of medical school for our Layers of Medicine Art Project. It was inspired by a Layers of Medicine discussion on how patients wish to be seen as more than their disease. As healthcare providers we can tend to focus on the pathology more than the person. The original piece was interactive and had 2 different colored lenses to view the piece. Looking through the blue lens portrays the physician’s perspective, while looking through the red lens portrays the patient’s perspective. I hadn’t thought to publish this piece before, but as I am approaching the beginning of residency I want this to be a reminder for myself and my classmates to treat the person, not just the disease.”
