THE PACIFIC PANDEMIC

Luti Nonu and Telisha Tausinga

Though only 1.6% of Utah’s population,
Pacific Islanders have 2x more COVID-19 deaths and
cases per capita than any other racial group.
As of March 1st, 2021 there have been 57 deaths in our
community (utah.gov).

These statistics are bewildering, and we commit to doing
our part to ensure the stories of those whose lives have
been impacted by COVID-19 are heard.

IN REMEMBRANCE OF FIFTY-SEVEN LIVES:

 

Telisha is a student in the UUSOM Class of 2024. She has a B.S. in Exercise Science and Anthropology and is currently interested in OBGYN and surgery. Before beginning medical school, she worked as a medical assistant and scribe. When she isn't studying, Telisha loves the outdoors, reading, and traveling.

Steven founded a tech company and non-profit with his work partners. Before entering the business field, he worked as a legal secretary, professional caregiver, and criminal investigator. Steven is passionate about outdoor survival and world travel. He is fluent in Japanese and is talented in immersing in various cultures.

MED '24

Luti is a student in the UUSOM Class of 2024. He has a B.S. in Biology and is currently interested in orthopedics. Luti has an avid love for sports, grills a mean steak, and enjoys finding equality and building unity in his community.
